Online Business Strengths and Weaknesses

9 Sep

Although I now think about this topic a lot, having this foresight many years ago when I first started my online business would have been a huge advantage.

What I have found of my self and many online marketers is that they love gathering and learning new information… which is a great ability to have.

But on the down side of this, there are then tasks that such people shy away from or just don’t want to do.

The problem there is that depending on your website or online business, some of these tasks or parts are required for success to happen.

I have therefore found two thing that help me in this area.

  1. Is sitting down and writing a list of all the tasks required for a job/site and deciding what you love doing and will actually do and what you might outsource.
  2. Do A lit of things I like doing but find it difficult to start.

You can arrange the list however you like.

For example, here is some of my own lists…

Enjoy/Like/Good At Behaviors/Tasks

  • Analyzing
  • Research
  • Creating
  • Managing
  • Ideas (big picture)

Do Not Enjoy/Like At Behaviors/Tasks

  • Discipline
  • Structure
  • Consistency

Therefore from this list, you can see that I am best suited to short projects which require creation, research or a bigger overview.

Ongoing items like writing a monthly newsletter I have difficulty with.So I have no learned what to outsource, what types of websites to build and also now enjoy my work more as I am doing more of what I like.

So, say if you haven’t got the cash to outsource?

An example of this is that I don’t mind writing articles for my newsletter but for some reason coming up with ideas I find difficult, not that I don’t have the knowledge.
How I overcome this is by visiting forums.

I find it quite easy to write forum posts as there are always a stack of posts/ideas to source from… maybe it also has something to do with having a live audience.

I then copy my some of my posts, re write/edit it slightly and then place it on my newsletter and or use it as an article.

So at the end of the day, remember that some websites will require a full range of tasks. If it is a task that you don’t like doing and you know someone else can do it much better, outsource it straight away.

It will…

  • Get that project finished a lot quicker
  • Stop you from stressing about having to do that given task/tasks.
  • Allow you to enjoy your work a lot more and concentrate on building sites you love to work on.
  • The item/task at hand will be of high quality as it will be completed by someone “who” is interested in doing it.
  • Make your business more profitable.

So, if you haven’t done it as yet, just sit down and write a list of stuff you like doing and you don’t.You will find it makes a huge difference to your businesses performance and the way in which you bring enthusiasm to your business and the work you do.
